One of the many “favorite” places we had to replace when we moved here from Minnesota was our Christmas tree farm. Honestly, it was so cold there, and our children were so little that we went to the closest possible tree lot, grabbed the nicest tree we could find in a short time, and took it home right away!
I remember one particular instance where it had been wet the night before and the tree was totally frozen. We had to let it thaw out before we could do anything to it! Going to a place that was more “fun” to pick out the tree was simply not on our radar.
Last year, our first Christmas in Maryland, we got our tree from the wonderful Old Timer Christmas Trees at the Earleigh Heights Fire Station. They have beautiful trees at reasonable prices and a huge selection. It’s super convenient: you go and pick out your tree, they make a cut and wrap it up for you, and you go on your merry way.
This year we wanted to try something different. Neither Mr. Adventure nor I was up for a long drive, and we were just getting ready to go to Earleigh Heights when I got a text from a friend recommending Hemlock Farm in Edgewater.
We were so glad we went! They have a playground, a craft area for kids to decorate their own Christmas tree, free hot cocoa and cider, and they give free packages of reindeer food to sprinkle on Christmas Eve!
The tree it self was a little more expensive, but $5 goes to a charity (they have several you can choose from) and for the experience, I think it was worth it!

Where do you go to get your Christmas tree? Have you ever gone to a cut your own farm?
That’s an adventure for us for next year! Tell me about your favorite places in the comments!
